Eylea® Injections in Nashville, TN
The leading cause of vision loss amongst patients over 50 years old is a type of macular degeneration. Eylea® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment for the condition. Jeffrey D. Horn, MD, of Vision for Life offers Eylea® injections for the residents of Nashville, Murfreesboro and the surrounding communities of Tennessee.
What are Eylea® Injections?
Wet age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss amongst men and women over 50 years old. The condition causes the development of abnormal blood vessels behind the retina. Left untreated, the blood vessels degrade the retina which is a key component for clear vision. Eylea® is clinically proven to treat this type of macular degeneration as well as other eye conditions.
Benefits of Eylea® Injections
Eylea® works by reducing the amount of fluid and blood that leaks from the abnormal blood vessels that develops due to wet age-related macular degeneration. Any fluid or blood that is already in the eye will be absorbed by the body.
What Can Be Treated with Eylea® Injections?
The most common conditions that are treated with Eylea® are:
- Macular degeneration
- Retinal vein occlusion
What to Expect From Eylea® Injections
Your eye is dilated for the treatment with Eylea® injections. Dr. Horn administers a numbing agent and cleans the eye with a special solution. Eylea® is gently injected into the eye using a small gauge needle. You feel no discomfort during the treatment.
Your vision will be improved immediately after the injections, and vision will continue to improve as your body absorbs the fluid and blood inside the eye. Seeing spots and circles for up to five days is normal after Eylea® injections. Because Eylea® does not cure macular degeneration but only controls the symptoms, you may need follow-up treatments to preserve your vision. The standard schedule of injections is monthly for three months, and then injections every two months. Some patients may need Eylea® injections every four to six weeks.
Are Eylea® Injections Right for Me?
If you are diagnosed with wet age-related macular degeneration, Dr. Horn may recommend Eylea® injections. Patients with active eye infections, irritation, and other eye-related conditions should not use Eylea®.
How Much Do Eylea® Injections Cost in Nashville?
The cost of your Eylea® injections may not be covered by your vision and medical insurance. We accept cash, check and major credit cards, including Visa®, MasterCard®, and American Express®, for your out-of-pocket costs, such as a co-payment, deductible and co-insurance, and any other remaining balance.
